Reflective essay.
For assignment 3 I was tasked with creating a simple premise for a game world. While planning for this assignment, I first considered revisiting my previous game idea from semester 1 and further developing and improving upon it but I wanted to focus on a designing a new idea which I thought would be more interesting and allow for more development and detail and help strengthen some of my existing skills.
I planned for this game idea to be targeted for an teenage audience and would be focused on appealing to casual and competitive gamer's as there are the mostly likely to play and be interested in the type of genre and game that the idea is designed for.
I finally decided to create a game based in space with the theme of cops and robbers. I thought this to be a unique and interesting setting for a game that allowed for an imaginative and surreal world. The game was designed with the intention of being a multiplayer shooter with multiple open areas in which to battle, capture and control planets as well as other objectives within space levels. i chose to use a future theme as this helps distinguish the game and also helps create a fun and interesting atmosphere and style for gameplay, it also allows fluent and fast movement in which to traverse the world which is something only this them and type of game could allow.
This futuristic theme has allowed for a space combat as well as providing a more unique and fast paced gameplay experience and feel to the world. This is the only theme that can provide this with its futuristic technology. This also helps with some the unrealistic situations that only in the future would be possible. I believe I have shown this successfully but more research into how space in game the world works could help with the design and process in future work.
I chose to use a more cartoon bright art style as I feel this is one of my strengths. This style also makes the world more vibrant and colourful in comparison to other more realistic art styles. I think this helps make the game more unique and helps it stand out to other games.I think I have given a detailed premise for a game with the artwork I have produced for the game making it a unique and exciting idea.
In my research for the game I looked at games such as team fortress 2 (Teamfortress.com, 2017) and dead space (Www2.ea.com, 2017) as references for the look and feel of the game.
My art style is similar to team fortress as well as the designs of the characters. Dead space has some great space areas to explore and this is helpful in showing what a combat in space would look like, I have also tried to show a more of an action based feel to it with these references I decided to create a game with cops and robbers theme as I found that to be an interesting and mostly unused concept, this also helped with why they would be fighting with a clear enemy and hero.
I have produced artwork showing the games world and atmosphere which shows the characters and the theme shown in the artwork with its open spaced battles and colourful art style being the most visible and appealing. I feel I have presented this well within the artwork provided but I could show more annotations on the artwork and designs of the world in the future.
I have also produced art pieces which show how the game could look and function with the key features and icons on screen that would be shown in game, The art pieces I have produced help show how the game would work and show the action adventure genre cops and robbers style game I have designed. The alterations I could make in the future would be to maybe try different art style as it would challenge my artistic skills as well as create a whole new feel to the artwork, In future I could research deeper into projects and I think that's something that I can defiantly improve.
I have placed all my sketches and artwork as well as images relating to research for the game into my blog showing the process and development I have gone through while developing this game idea and describing the process I have gone through from the original idea to the final design. I have also placed all my work for the game into an InDesign pdf making the project easier to present, this also makes it look cleaner and more of a finished project which is the best way to clearly show the game world that I have created for this assignment.
In conclusion I consider that I have created a fun and interesting premise for a game. I have covered all areas while designing this game and have shown all this in my blog and pdf.
If I was to do this assignment again I would to improve it by doing more research into the theme and style I chose as well as show a more open and vibrant world but I think that would be a little too ambitious and time constraints would be restricting,
Overall I have found this assignment enjoyable and I am pleased with the game's outcome, I would like to do this assignment again with the improvements I have stated and I look forward to developing this further in the future.

Here are the level selection and start screen for the game using the space theme and artwork i have made for the game i chose a simple design for them with a level selection with a scroll function for levers and for the start screen a basic three button screen making it easy to navigate through the screens.

Storyline:
The Rangers are space police in the far future tasked with guarding the universe and keeping the orb of power from being stolen from the bandits trying to steal it, the rangers guard the 6 planets within the solar system and must secure the orb of power or the entire universe is at risk, fight through space with a variety of weapons and abilities in order to control or destroy the galaxy capture and control planets and capture or kill your enemies in the vast emptynest of space
Objective:

These are art pieces for the game is shows space combat between the two factions with its future style and theme i feel gives a fun and interesting atmosphere while the other piece shows how i think the game would look in game with the games icons and symbols in the corners such as a timer and life bar. i think this shows a good example of how the game idea should work i would make the icons more easier to understand in the future with diagrams describing the certain areas of interest.

copyright
We have learned information on copyright involving games
- i think the copyright system being used in the uk is good compared to other countries such as the usa and it seems to be in favor of the holder but gives a lot of leverage when a person would like to use a copyrighted asset.
- in my opinion a fair copyright term would be anything used for education and assets not being used for making money off as long as the the copyright owner is given credit for there work i don't see the problem in using a copyright asset within reason.

- images of games,films
- short clips of above as long as spoilers and extended amounts of video
